Wookie is my surprise pony, conceived when my 3 yr. old Friesian Sporthorse was still a stallion, and my 12.2 hand Welsh pony mare came into season. However, he has turned out quite nicely, a stocky and bold little guy who looks just like a Highland pony! He is about 13.2 hands tall, but can carry up to about 150 lbs. as he is quite strong.
He is very smart, and learns quite fast with positive reinforcement. A couple carrots or treats for good behavior has done wonders for his pony attitude! He still occasionally throws "I don't wanna!!" tantrums, for example when he thinks he's done being ridden, and then you turn him away from home. But with a strong rider who insists he do as told, he quickly stops. He is very brave, and frequently leads the way on trail rides.
We are currently working on some basic dressage; consistent gaits, a rhythmic and steady pace, and promptly picking up the canter when asked, rather than racing into it. Wookie is super smart and responds very well to encouragement and praise, so I expect with the right rider he would progress by leaps and bounds.. He jumps, and isn't spooky, just needs more time under saddle. I would love for an experienced eventer type, or someone who wants to work on his dressage to lease him! But he would also do well with a person who just wants to trail ride, so long as they are a confident rider.
